Message from the President

Advancing Healthcare Together: A Vision for the Future

It is with immense honor and gratitude that I accept the position of President of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Medical Devices Industry (SLCMDI) for the year 2025/26. This marks a significant milestone in our chamber’s journey, as we continue to grow stronger and more united, with membership expanding by over 20% in the past three years, bringing our total membership to over 80.

The medical devices industry plays a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare, especially now as we embrace the transformative era of artificial intelligence. These innovations offer unparalleled opportunities to advance patient care, improve outcomes, and enhance efficiency within the healthcare sector. However, as exciting as these advancements are, we must address challenges such as regulatory frameworks, accessibility, and ongoing education to ensure that progress reaches all who need it.

Our chamber is proud to collaborate with stakeholders like the Ministry of Health in establishing safety standards that promote innovation while upholding quality. We prioritize investment in continuous professional development for healthcare workers and remain steadfast in our efforts to make medical devices accessible across every demographic.

As we embark on this new chapter, our focus for the year 2025 includes addressing key issues such as:

  • Implementing e-procurement and payment systems to reduce delays.
  • Advancing medical device regulations and classifications through NMRA.
  • Ensuring streamlined customs processes to avoid delays and contamination of essential medical devices.
  • Lobbying for VAT waivers to alleviate financial burdens on the medical devices industry.

Moreover, we are committed to enhancing transparency, creating dedicated tender guidelines, and expanding partnerships to foster innovation and efficiency in healthcare delivery.

Let me extend my heartfelt thanks to Immediate Past President Tilak for their invaluable leadership and unwavering commitment during challenging times. Their vision and resilience have left an indelible mark on our chamber, guiding us through transitions and securing progress.

In closing, I call on all stakeholders, from regulatory authorities to healthcare professionals and media representatives, to join us in this collective endeavor. Your support and collaboration are vital as we continue to shape the future of healthcare in Sri Lanka, ensuring that excellence, innovation, and accessibility remain at the forefront of our mission.

Thank you for your unwavering trust and partnership. Together, we will achieve great things, keeping Sri Lanka at the cutting edge of medical technology and healthcare delivery.

Sincerely,

Gehan Seneviratne

President, Sri Lanka Chamber of Medical Devices Industry (2025/26)
