SLCMDI emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to working closely with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to expedite the issuance of long-delayed medical device regulations. SLCMDI also addressed concerns about the cumbersome government tender bidding system, advocating for a more streamlined and fair process to encourage wider participation and ensure the procurement of high-quality products at competitive prices.

Sri Lanka has been actively participating in international efforts to strengthen medical device regulation. In February 2025, the country hosted a regional hybrid workshop to improve regulation of medical devices, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). The workshop highlighted Sri Lanka's progress in strengthening its regulatory system, including medical devices, with full engagement from the government.
